Catholic Charities Bureau, Inc. v. Wisconsin Labor & Industry Review Commission

Court Accountability: “The Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld the state policy requiring Catholic Charities Bureau to pay into the state’s unemployment insurance program. The Roberts majority made clear at oral argument that it believes Wisconsin’s policy violated Catholic Charities Bureau’s religious liberty, even though the organization’s employees provide a secular service.” (See Court Accountability’s full June Decisions Preview here.)

Decision: The Court unanimously sided with the petitioner, Catholic Charities Bureau.
